After spending over 20 years in the field of teaching I am excited to once again devote time to teaching children and adults to swim. I love to swim and feel that the ability to swim is not only an exciting experience but also a necessary lifelong skill. Learning a new stroke or perfecting an old stroke provides a wonderful sense of accomplishment.
As a high school and college student I spent my summers as a swim instructor, camp counselor and a waterfront director at YMCA and Girl
Scout Camps. After graduating from college I was an elementary school teacher for over 10 years. With the arrival of my second child I took time off from teaching but stayed active as a volunteer in the community. Some of these positions included Cub Scout leader, soccer coach, Girl Scout leader, reading tutor and assistant track coach. One volunteer job that I found particularly rewarding was my twelve years as a Girl Scout leader and town consultant. I am extremely proud of my troop of girls who all earned the highest award in scouts, the Gold Award. Even now that my daughter is in college I am still involved in the town Girl Scout organization as a consultant.
I have been certified in Red Cross Water Safety Instruction (WSI) and Lifesaving for the second time in my career and am excited about teaching my love of swimming to my students. My belief is that everyone can learn to swim if taught the steps and the science of swimming. My lessons will include safety skills that I feel are necessary in all water environments. My experience covers all areas from group to individual, preschool thru adult and special needs. I enjoy teaching beginners as much as I love helping others perfect advanced strokes.
