Alana M - Female
Since I was 8, I spent nearly every summer swimming for my local swim club's competitive swim team. This love for swimming led me to work as a certified Red Cross lifeguard for six years and also as a Swim Instructor for the past 4 summers at a Camp in New York. I have taught children of all ages, personalities, and skill levels ranging from 3-15.
After graduating from Stonehill College with a B.A. in English and Spanish (minor in Psychology), I began my first year of law school at Pace University in White Plains, NY. While this has been a demanding and rewarding experience thus far, for the first time in my life swimming and teaching were missing. I am grateful for the opportunity to teach again with Making Waves Swim School.
As both a Swim Instructor and Lifeguard, I am reminded daily of the importance of water safety and the gift of helping kids and adults learn a skill that they will take with them for life. I remember how intensely I struggled with butterfly as a struggling 8 year old new to swimming, and how if it were not for my coach I would not have mastered the stroke which is now my favorite to swim.
My technique as an Instructor centers on fostering an environment that is easy-going, comfortable and structured. I tailor each of my lessons to the individual's strengths, weaknesses, and personalities, and always focus on safety first. I hope that if anything, I can pass on my passion for swimming to my students and create an experience that is not only safe and informative but also fun!
